My Big City Trip

Spent some time in and around Brisbane for week

First up, five nights here where I met and worked with other veterans, very cool

After that a trip to the Brisbane Library to meet and hear my favourite fantasy author, Raymond E Feist; before this stuff I only ever read history and politics with maybe the odd biography. Ray is a very modest man who writes good stories including, one of my top-books-to-read-ever- A-lister, Magician

Next up, to the Sunshine Coast, where I found this little underground wonderland, Nambour Hobby Centre, which produced the following...

British material for my cold war collection

And for the Russians... The figures will mostly be converted to carry assault rifles, as I did with these http://20thcenturywargames.blogspot.com.au/2011/05/cold-war-soviets.html and these http://20thcenturywargames.blogspot.com.au/2011/04/late-1940s-soviet-infantry-1st-company.html Most of my cold war collection is 50-70s, so far...

Always wanted some of these

This is for Paul (will post tomorrow:)

Not sable but certainly good enough vehicles and scenery

x2 for $1. I've seen Landcruisers all over the world so that one won't look out of place anywhere once painted, as for the Chevy I'm undecided. All in all a pretty good week away.

Lastly, can anyone recommend where best to get recoilless rifles from in either metal or plastic in 20mm?

SE5a

Finally got this finished, a very tidy little kit with good detail and engineering

Painted with my usual mix of Vallejo paints and Citadel washes

For once the decals went on without a hitch; actually I've had fewer problems with these since I started using warm water when applying them

I've resolved to try rigging one more smaller attempt before taking on my prized 0/400

An excellent addition to my WW1 aircraft collection, thanks to a daughter who knows me well :)

Arrived

These were on the doorstep when I got home, read RMC 60s-80s

Which immediately inspired further preparation and undercoating of the last lot

I now have the full range of support weapons to build the units I want. Joy :)

Just thought I'd show them off!

Dave's Updated Crews

Dave's been busy making new gun crew stands specifically for his new artillery pieces

Mostly from the excellent Pegasus German mortar sets, though there is an old Revell figure there too

Dave has also sculpted shells for these bad boys

Still some touching up to do around the bases

Nice one Dave, keep you posted with anything new

More BEF

Been working away on a few more infantry figures to prepare for a game

And, have added two more companies

All of the latest additions are carrying ammunition boxes because I had originally wanted to build them as an engineer unit, but lacked the necessary picks and shovels, etc, that would have made them look a bit more 'engineer-like'

I managed to achieve a few more poses by mixing what I had left between the infantry and machinegun sets

Here is the full battalion, minus its support company, which is still in the process of being built.

Progress

A bit of progress on this kit I started a week ago...

Undercoated, base coloured, washed and highlighted on sprue; well a wee bit anyway :)

Pilot detail, still needs some work

First ever attempts at rigging, with mixed results but I've learnt a bit from this experience that I can apply with slightly more confidence when I eventually tackle my Handley-Page 0/400

I'm an 'assignment marking machine' at present but will hopefully get my life back towards the weekend, and finish this little item; as always, keep you posted :)

Fences

More cheap scenery items added this week with help from my Jungle Animals Playset, this time fences...

First I cut them in half and then based them on pieces of flooring tile

Undercoated

Two different colours and styles give me a little bit of variety, the only thing missing now is flock on the bases, which I don't have so will have to worry about that later on

Slowly starting to build up the basic necessities for a modest game, the first of which is in about three weeks time with my nieghbour Phil, who has been furiously reading the rules for CD3 and getting a grasp of the game mechanics since I met him about this time last week. Keep you posted...
